As I type this out I am soaked and very jittery because... i just bungee jumped into the river nile and it was INCREDIBLE. Now I have leapt head first off a tiny platform with only a cord attached to my ankles and plummeted towards a river I honestly feel I can do anything, bring it on sky dive!! (..maybe not). I was terrified at first, but after the initial free fall you just soar through the air like a bird, amazing. Can't wait to share photos and videos! Anyway this weekend so far has been amazing, yesterday we finished school early and took a matatu (tiny van squished with people and often goats and chickens) to Jinja and met up with the gang at a cafe called Flavours for a milkshake. Then we explored town a bit and found a spa kind of place so Alice got her nose pierced so we look even more like lesbians and Lucy and I got some more in my ear hehe. Then we traveled to a popular backpackers accommodation called Adrift which is where we are staying for the weekend in dorms with 3 storey bunk-beds which was v.interesting after a night out..! That was last night so today we are all hyped after the bungee jump and looking forward to tonight- I'm going to make a note that it was mainly girls who did the jump!!
This week has again flown by I think because we make an effort to keep ourselves busy with travelling and visiting other AV's . On Tuesday we went to Iganga to have omelet and meet up with the other AV's because I miss eggs so much and am so BORED of pasta/stir fry and ratatouille. I like preparing and eating fresh veg everyday which we get from the market in Kaliro but you can only get green peppers, tomatoes, garlic, onions and eggplant so we are being forced to experiment with what little selection we've got for example Alice made a stir fry and mixed in peanut butter and soy sauce which we managed to get hold of. It is also a good day when we manage to find a good pineapple, jackfruit (craziest yum fruit i have ever seen) or watermelon at the market so that's always nice. We are trying to avoid resorting to chipattis or peanut butter fingers (lucy's speciality of destroying the valuable peanut butter with her hands) to get a sugar high!! We also met up with Katy the american mzungu from across the compound who managed to make a temporary oven out of balancing 2 saucepans together to make an oven on top of the gas stove and we made banana bread and played uno LOL which was chilled, but fitting to life out here which is SO chilled.
We are also starting to get closer with our Ugandan neighbors who live in the house attached to ours. Juliet is the mum and is a typical really big african woman who we adore- i painted her nails the other night and she wants me to straighten her hair lolol. She also cooked me some white ants which were actually delicious although no one else tried them!
On a completely seperate note I'm yet to get a mosquito bite... which is unbelievable but Mum if you are reading you would be so proud. Every night I religiously apply the mosquito repellant, light mosquito repelling coils around the house and sleep under my mosquito net with my mosquito repallant blanket.
Have to go, off to the pool tomorrow which I am excited for and then back to school.
