Quick post today because the internet is unbearably slower than usual. I am starting to feel really settled now into our little routine and the weeks are just flying by which is terrifying. School is definitely improving as we have finally managed to get a timetable- we are into our 4th week of teaching and only just got an official timetable what does that say about the disorganization of Kasokwe school that Alice and I having to deal with. Also our relationships with the children are getting stronger, we are really close with a few of our P2 students (primary 2)- little Edmund, Kevina, Joshua and Brenda are ADORABLE. Whenever they see us the students all stand and say 'you are welcome teachers. we are happy to see you. we are fine and obedient' and then they sit. On Thursday after a successful PE game of Bulldog a little boy got on his knees and presented me with a pineapple, which is what the students do here for their favorite teachers which was lovely. Other plans we have in the works is the a health class with the older classes with Katy who lives down the road and is a healthcare worker. She wants to do lesson on female bodies and puberty and things like that because the sex education over here is so poor so that will be interesting/awkward/beneficial. We also did regular exhausting Zumba class and also our first music lesson with P4 where we played different samples of rock, pop, classical, African and Indian music to the class on the speakers we bought in Jinja which went down very well and drew a massive crowd so kids were stuffed in the classroom, practically hanging off the ceiling listening to the Darkness, Jay-Z and the Beach Boys.
Outside of school we visited the clothes market in Kaliro and got some funny t-shirts with slogans for not even 60p to wear for the house-party on Friday at Iganga at some other AV's in the groups house. The dress code is 'shit shirt' and as all the clothes on sale out here have been sent over from Oxfam you get a lot of crap Hawaiian shirts but also a lot of designers.. I've found a lot of Abercrombie and Fitch out-here which I am always tempted to buy and sell on eBay when I get home.
We also had the deputy head teacher over for supper which ended up us cooking her some ratatouille and rice and then her cleaning our house and cooking US some dodo (Ugandan spinach) and some fried groundnuts and she brought us a papaya for pudding- typical! She has to leave before it got dark so she could cycle home but we left it too late and I had to give her my head-torch which she found hilarious?
Katy also came over with her laptop on Thursday and we had a movie night in late celebration of the Oscars! We watched Argo because it won best picture which I think it absolutely deserved, then again I'm yet to see 'Django Unchained' but that is hopefully for next week unless we watch Life of Pi (you can get hold of ANY movie on pirated copy over here even if it is just released). bonus! We made her pancakes the English way and she couldn't understand the lemon and sugar combo , and then made us the American versions.
On Wednesday we went over to visit the boys in Nambaale as they ahve finally moved back in after Ed had to go to hopsital with his broken foot. We had a bit of a welcome back party which was really fun and cooked chips which tasted horrendous. So it's been a pretty fun week, we like to keep ourselves constantly meetign up with people otherwise it can get a bit suffocating in the Budini girls compound as it is a girls only house in a girls boarding school. But we are all very happy and more importantly we are tanning.
There are a lot of Indians in Uganda so tonight we are going to try an Indian restaurant with the gang as it is supposed to be amazing here! Before I leave...... HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM!! Can't believe you are turning 25!!!

p.s: the title of this post refers to the rhyme we sing with P2 everyday:
Shake shake the mango tree
Shake shake the mango tree
Mango yellow, Mango green.
Shake shake the mango tree
Shake shake the mango tree
One for you and one for me
Shake shake the mango tree
*everyone screams*
